Short answer: buy screen, not specs. A 10–11 inch tablet with a bright, high-resolution display and microSD expansion is the manga sweet spot — big enough for double-page spreads, light enough for one hand. Any current Android tablet runs Mihon (it needs Android 8.0+), so choose by display size, weight and storage. What actually matters for manga
- Size 10–11″: page-size reading without zooming; spreads in double-page mode (reader settings) look like the printed page.
- Aspect ratio: taller ratios (like 3:2 or 16:10) waste less screen on a manga page than very wide 16:9 video-first tablets.
- microSD slot: a downloaded library grows quietly; card expansion is the cheapest storage upgrade there is.
- Weight under ~500 g: you will hold it for hours. A case with a stand matters more than a keyboard.
The short list
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S series — the premium pick: AMOLED screens make ink blacks truly black, and S Pen models double as note/sketch tools. See Galaxy Tab S on Amazon.
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A series / Lenovo Tab — the sensible middle: good LCDs, microSD, half the price. See Lenovo Tab on Amazon · Galaxy Tab A on Amazon.
- Amazon Fire HD 10 — the budget pick, with a caveat: Fire OS is not full Android. Sideloading Mihon takes extra steps and Play services are limited, so it suits patient tinkerers, not a first tablet. See Fire HD 10 on Amazon.
- A big microSD card — whichever tablet you pick, this is the accessory that matters. See 256 GB microSD cards on Amazon.
Tablets vs e-ink
If you read for hours daily and eye strain is your issue, an Android e-ink reader may suit you better than any LCD — see best e-ink readers for manga. If you read color series, watch video, or want one device for everything, stay with a tablet.
